Book Sale

The Friends sponsor the Biannual Book Sale and Silent Auction which have gained a local
reputation for being "can't miss" events. Volunteers, known as "Attic Annies and Andys," work
year-round sorting thousands of items, including books, CDs, audiotapes, and other donated items
for the Book Sale and Silent Auction. All of their hard work has paid off. While the first Book Sale in
1980 brought in $2,500, the sale has grown considerably. Because of great selection and
wonderful prices, our last sale netted over $13,000. With books being measured by the inch,
there are wonderful bargains available.
Each sale involves workers who start immediately following the last book sale and work until the
next sale. The book sale committee tries to keep books in the same place for each sale so that
patrons will be familiar with the layout. In addition to our volunteers, the Friends would like to
acknowledge the Lafayette Parish Correction Center, who has always been there to help out. The
Friends would also like to thank Coca Cola Bottling for providing the black “shells” which help
immensely in keeping their books straight, Danny Landry at The UPS Store for his generous
donation of patron boxes, Target for their donation of bags, and Auto Rental Etc for use of their
truck. The Friends offer a further thanks to those who donate books and to those who buy them at
our sales so that we may continue to support the libraries in our community.

often see the same customers returning year after year. Many are just browsing for anything that
catches their eye, but some come looking for specific items. "You never know when you'll find a
treasure that you've been looking for at the sale," notes Flossie Turner, Friends Board Member.
